“Before Fistbump the Sky was a world for everyone to explore, it was a form of escape.”
The Sad Place from the Author’s perspective
THE SAD PLACE
Through the eyes of a researcher
It is common knowledge that The Sad Place was the first to exist.
It’s also well-known that one cannot access it without permission from Lam, its guardian. A state of mourning being the requisite. However, despite all its mystery, we believe that we have found it’s location–the Eastern Ocean.
THE LOCATION
The shell fishers of the National Bank accidentally discovered the island while out on the yellow sea. It would have been dismissed as simply another island if the youngest crew member hadn’t spotted Lam. Their distance from the island thankfully spared them from the demigod’s wrath. One of the more logical crew members said he saw multiple leafless trees of red. The presence of red trees correlates to the recollections we have gathered. Upon inspecting the crew’s clothing, sand particles were found in the folds.
It appeared to be desert sand. However, no similarities have been found between the sand that and those of the deserts of Fistbump the Sky. Experiments are underway to determine whether an ocean can house a desert and whether the sand on the clothes is related to our established deserts. Nomads have also been called in to participate in this research.
Defence
We believe that The Sad Place has become known as impenetrable because it utilises two defences: Lam and the Eastern Ocean. Although Lam’s grotesque methods of removing trespassers have gained much fame, it is safe to presume that the demigod is most likely the second defence, and the first one is, in fact, the waters of the Eastern Ocean. The most direct way to enter the island would be by crossing the ocean. However, as the yellow water of the Eastern Ocean is deadly, one can only presume that Lam was tasked with guarding the island from those who would infiltrate it through a flying machine or with skills to navigate the Eastern Ocean. See the crew of the National Bank.
Healing
The creatures who have experienced mourning spoke of being inside a round structure with thin slits through which they watched the world. The structure was warm and soft and cared for their basic needs, such as hunger and thirst. Some creatures also recall screaming and kicking the warm walls.
Would that mean that the structure is a soundproof one?
These vague descriptions have led many to believe that the creatures might have been placed in isolating wombs of sorts. This is only speculation as no one has ever seen a womb, par the plants in the Birthing Grounds. Some believe that the structure might have been an egg and that the reported slits were, in fact, cracks. However, would an eggshell not crack if kicked and would the shells not break from the additional weight? We must consider other possibilities.
Despite recent discoveries, we are still dancing in the speculative stage and have yet to answer the biggest question: How do those in mourning reach The Sad Place? There seems to be a pattern of Ingredient–Borns finding themselves inside the enigmatic domes after wishing for isolation during their mourning period. Some with a higher rebirth number believe that Lam himself transports mourning creatures to The Sad Place.
Amazingly drawn maps. Love the single continent vibe I got from it. Reminds me of Middle Earth and Tamriel. Keep writing! You have amazing concepts here.
I continue to love this art! I liked both perspectives for sure, this world continues to be so imaginative!
